About Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a valuable and important method of helping you take control of your life.

This means effecting change in both your mind and body.

To understand how hypnosis works it is helpful to think of the mind as being in two parts, we will call them the conscious and the subconscious.

The conscious mind contains temporary memory, the ability to reason and your will power. If will power was always effective there would be no need for a hypnotherapist.

The subconscious mind is the real 'powerhouse' it contains the imagination,  the emotions and most important of all it stores your permanent memory.

Hypnosis provides a path to accessing the subconscious mind and by altering the way individuals understand a particular activity or habit, desirable changes can be made.

Hypnosis is not sleep, it is often likened to daydreaming or the pre sleep state.

Individuals take varying amounts of time to experience hypnosis, but everyone gets there eventually. The best subjects are those with a vivid imagination and those who find relaxation easy. A real desire for change is a pre-requisite for a successful trance and children generally respond extremely well to hypnotherapy.

Popular images of stage hypnosis can be misleading – stage hypnotists select those volunteers who are keen to undergo the experience and mentally have a desire to please the audience.

Clinical hypnosis is far removed from a stage show and does not result in bizarre behaviour. Clients remain seated and do not pretend to be anything they are not.

Some commonly asked questions include:

Q. Will I tell you all my secrets?

A. No - You only reveal what you want to reveal, many     sessions do not necessitate the individual saying anything in trance.

Q. What happens if I don’t come round from the trance?

A. It never happens - Clients recount a very pleasant, safe experience feeling deeply and completely relaxed.

Q. Will I lose control to the Hypnotherapist?

A. No  - You are in control at all times you may come round from the trance whenever you desire.
